Impressive find: Jimmy Page's guitar, given away half a century ago in a magazine contest, set to sell at auction for over $67,000

In an exciting turn of events, Jimmy Page's 1957 Gretsch Chet Atkins 6120 electric guitar, which was given away by the legendary musician over five decades ago, is set to be auctioned off. The guitar, now in the possession of Page's family, is expected to fetch anywhere between £30,000 and £50,000 when it goes under the hammer on September 9, according to auction house Gardiner Houlgate.

The guitar first came to light in an interview with the New Musical Express magazine, where Page revealed that he was giving away the guitar as a competition prize. The guitar was won by Charles Reid of Hornsey, North London, who correctly matched six guitars with the famous guitar players who owned them. Reid owned the guitar until September 1990, when he sold it to Phil O'Donoghue, a guitarist in a '70s band called Wild Angels, for £2,000. O'Donoghue tragically passed away earlier this year.

Charles Reid, in an interview with The Independent, expressed his disbelief at Page giving away such a terrific guitar, stating that Page must be "mental" to do so. The auction house has copies of the New Musical Express showing the competition for the guitar and a photo of Page giving the guitar to winner Charles Reid.

The Gretsch guitar, which Page bought in Nashville for £200 in 1972, has attracted huge interest from collectors, investors, and fans of Led Zeppelin. The guitar was notably featured in the band's iconic album covers and live performances.

Recently, Jimmy Page announced the Sundragon Nymph, a boutique, Page-co-founded brand's smallest-footprint, low-wattage combo. This latest venture further underscores Page's enduring love for music and his continued contribution to the industry.

The auction of Jimmy Page's Gretsch guitar is set to be a significant event in the world of music memorabilia, offering fans and collectors a unique opportunity to own a piece of rock and roll history.
