Implement sensible water usage - Tokayev's recommendation
Kazakhstan's Head of State Urges Modernization of Water Resource Management
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of Kazakhstan, has underscored the importance of improving water management in the country. During a meeting with farmers in the Akmola region, Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan is wasting up to 50% of its water resources, while neighboring countries are using the most advanced technologies and not wasting a single liter.
Tokayev noted that this waste is due to a lack of knowledge on how to save water, both in daily life and in industry. He stressed the need to establish new environmental and sanitary-hygienic standards in the housing and utilities sector, and to focus on using the most modern technology in water management.
In his new Address to the people of Kazakhstan, Tokayev highlighted the importance of sustainable development through modernization of housing and communal services and water infrastructure. He suggested that Kazakhstan could potentially buy modern water management technology from China, which is currently leading in this field globally.
Tokayev also proposed the idea of exchanging views on water management with other countries, and potentially setting up production and achieving localization of this technology in Kazakhstan. He reiterated that Kazakhstan needs to learn to use water resources more rationally in order to avoid needing help from other countries in water management negotiations.
The government has announced initiatives focusing on sustainable water use, integrated water resource management, and investment in infrastructure modernization. Kazakhstan is modernizing its water resource management by implementing advanced monitoring technologies, promoting efficient irrigation practices, and enhancing cross-border water cooperation.
The topic of water resource management in Kazakhstan will be discussed at the upcoming Agroforum. Tokayev noted that he had previously mentioned the relevance of this topic in his Address, using the phrase 'the horse isn't dead yet'.
Tokayev stated that the country is not using advanced technologies in water management and will continue its work in the direction of improving water resource management. He believes that the issues of water resource management should be thoroughly discussed, and that Kazakhstan could potentially benefit from exchanging views with other countries on this matter.
