Impending Downpours and Thunderous Weather Approaching Kazakhstan

On August 15, Kazhydromet, the national weather service of Kazakhstan, published a new weather forecast for the country. According to the forecast, a northwestern cyclone will influence the weather in most of Kazakhstan from August 16 to 18, 2025.

During this period, daytime temperatures are expected to rise in various regions. In northwestern regions, temperatures are expected to increase from 16-30°C to 22-33°C. Central regions will see a main temperature range of 20-30°C, while the east will experience a drop from 20-30°C to 17-25°C. The southeast will witness a temperature drop from 30-35°C to 25-32°C, and the north will have an average temperature of 18-23°C. Western regions will see a rise in daytime temperatures from 22-30°C to 27-35°C.

The forecast indicates that the period is generally characterized by unstable weather with thunderstorms, heavy rain, hail, and strong winds in various regions, alongside localized dust storms and extreme fire danger in some areas.

Thunderstorms with localized hail and heavy rain are expected mainly in the north, east, and Pavlodar region. Squalls and gusty winds reaching 15–30 m/s can accompany these storms. Specific regional examples include Astana with thunderstorms, intermittent rain, and winds up to 20 m/s, Almaty with thunderstorms and winds up to 15 m/s and continued fire danger, and the Pavlodar region with heavy rain, squalls, and hail. Shymkent and southern areas face squalls and thunderstorms with gusts up to 20 m/s, alongside extreme fire danger.

Dust storms are forecast in the south and west regions such as Atyrau, Mangystau, and Turkestan with high daytime temperatures reaching +35 to +40°C. Widespread variable conditions are also forecast, with showers and thunderstorms in western, eastern, and southeastern Kazakhstan, while some northern and northwest regions experience dry, pleasant weather.

Furthermore, wind gusts are forecast for Kazakhstan, and fog is possible in the north, east, and center during nighttime and morning hours.

Given this information, the likely weather scenario for August 16–18, 2025, would involve thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, and gusty winds in northern, eastern, and some southern regions, possibly accompanied by dust storms and high temperatures in the south and west. This matches the pattern of unstable late summer weather extending through late August.

For precise day-by-day detail for August 16 to 18, 2025, official meteorological forecasts closer to those dates would be required, as current sources have more general and later-August summaries.

Weather-forecasting predictions for Kazakhstan from August 16 to 18, 2025, suggest that northern, eastern, and some southern regions will experience thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, and gusty winds. Moreover, the weather-forecasting service indicates that these storms may be accompanied by dust storms and high temperatures in the south and west.
