Impact of Russian Drone Attack on Sudakov's Apartment in Kyiv
Ukraine Midfielder's Apartment Suffers Significant Damage in Russian Drone Strike
Georgiy Sudakov, a midfielder for Ukraine's national football team, has reported significant damage to his apartment in Kyiv following a Russian drone strike. The attack took place while his family, including his wife Yelyzaveta, their three-year-old daughter Milana, and his mother, were at home.
The building containing Sudakov's apartment is located in the southeastern sector of the Svyatoshyns'kyi district. Witnesses reported scattered debris across the street and damage to parked vehicles beneath the building. Verified images reveal extensive destruction to the upper floors of the apartment complex, characterized by blackened walls and broken windows.
The attack was part of a larger coordinated strike by Russian forces, which included 805 drones and 13 missiles. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the aftermath of the strikes resulted in the tragic loss of four lives and 44 injuries. Details surrounding the incident, including the safety of Sudakov's family during the attack, remain unclear.
Originally from Bryanka in the Donbas region, which is currently under Russian occupation, Sudakov transferred to Benfica from Shakhtar Donetsk in August. In a post accompanying photos and videos of the destruction, Sudakov shared that his family was at home at the time of the attack. The article does not provide information about their current condition or whereabouts.
As the national team gears up for a World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan on Tuesday, the players remain acutely aware of their responsibilities, representing not only their country but also the hopes of their fellow citizens. Sudakov expressed this sentiment, stating: "When we play for the national team, we feel responsibility and pride, we want to please the people who support us."
Residents of Kyiv have provided first-hand accounts confirming the utilization of the drones mentioned by Sudakov. Ukraine's defense managed to intercept 751 of the drones and missiles launched by Russian forces. Despite the challenges of being a footballer during the ongoing war in Ukraine, Sudakov previously described the psychological hardship of being far from his family, stating: "It's psychologically hard when your family is far away and the first thing you see in the morning after waking up is a text from your wife saying that she and your child are hiding in the bathroom."
