Update as of 2:45 PM on June 6: The weather conditions in Bavaria have taken a turn for the worse. Fresh storms are expected to hit the Free State this Friday, with several districts under level two (of four) thunderstorm warnings, according to the DWD. These include:
- Neuburg-Schrobenhausen
- Pfaffenhofen a.d. Ilm
- Eichstätt
- Kelheim
- Regensburg
- Neumarkt i.d. OPf.
- Roth
- Amberg-Sulzbach
- Neustadt a.d. Waldnaab
- Tirschenreuth
Meteorologists have sounded the alarm for storm gusts and heavy rain in these regions.
Keep in mind that Bavaria has been battered by severe storms on Wednesday, with golf ball-sized hail, uprooted trees, and flooded drains. In Langquaid, wind speeds reached over 100 kilometers per hour, preliminary DWD measurements show. Zwiesel, in the district of Regen, and Regensburg, recorded the heaviest rainfall at around 26 liters per square meter each.
The Upper Bavarian community of Schöngeising had hailstones measuring about seven centimeters, causing an unscheduled landing at Memmingen Airport for a holiday flight headed to Italy. This unfortunate incident left injured passengers and raised serious accusations against the airline.

Well, despite these turbulent conditions, the DWD forecasts continued thunderstorms across Bavaria today, with individuals showers, heavy cloud cover, and widespread rain in the Bavarian Forest to the Allgäu. Isolated "thunderstorms with heavy rain of 15 L/qm in a short time and wind gusts up to 60 km/h" may occur here.
As we move towards the weekend, stability is expected to rise, leading to stormy conditions with persistent heavy cloud cover and rain.
