In the coming days, the Russian military is predicted to escalate missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, with a particular focus on civilian areas and key Ukrainian infrastructure.

The recent pattern of attacks indicates that the Russian forces are actively engaged in offensive operations, especially in the Pokrovsk direction in Donetsk Oblast, and Kyiv city remains a major target. The capital city has seen multiple large-scale attacks, including over 285 drones and 65 missiles in June 2025, which is significantly higher than earlier in the year.

The largest aerial assault since the war began was launched by Russia in late June, involving approximately 500 missiles and drones in a single night. The trend towards sustained and intensified bombardments has continued, with recent weeks witnessing 477 drones/decoys and 60 missiles in a single night.

These strikes are increasingly targeting civilian infrastructure and residential areas, with reports of deliberate "double tap" strikes aimed at emergency responders and the use of cluster munitions with delayed detonations posing ongoing risks to civilians and rescue workers.

Russian forces have also shifted some tactics on the ground, using smaller fire teams and leveraging summer foliage for concealment rather than heavy armored vehicles due to terrain constraints. However, air defense remains critical for Ukraine, as Ukrainian forces have had limited success intercepting recent ballistic missile strikes, such as Iskander-M, KN-23, and Kinzhal missiles.

In addition to the attacks on Ukrainian territory, the Russian Armed Forces are also expected to target places of equipment concentration and training camps in the western part of Ukraine, as forecasted by a pro-Russian underground coordinator in Nikolaev, Sergei Lebedev.

Lebedev also believes that the Russian Armed Forces will strike at the ports of Odessa and objects in the Nikolaev region to complicate the delivery of Western military aid by sea.

In summary, the next 3-5 days will likely see continued large-scale missile and drone attacks by Russian forces focused on eastern frontlines near Pokrovsk and on Kyiv and other civilian areas. The strikes are expected to be intense, with increasing use of ballistic missiles and tactics aimed at maximizing disruption and casualties among civilians and critical infrastructure.

  1. The intensified bombardments by Russian forces, focusing on key infrastructure and residential areas, suggest a shift towards politics of intimidation and destruction, part of the broader context of war-and-conflicts.
  2. As the Russian Armed Forces prepare to target places of equipment concentration and western training camps, the general news landscape is forecasted to be dominated by stories of ongoing tensions and potential conflicts in Ukraine.
