Military Deployment in LA: Trump Sends National Guard Over Migrant Protests - Immigrant Raids: Deployment of National Guard in L.A. for Demonstrations (truncated for brevity)
The Biden administration is cracking down on illegal activities and violent confrontations, particularly those that target law enforcement officers, according to government spokesperson Leavitt. She laid the blame for the present predicament on the incompetent Democratic leadership in Los Angeles and the state of California.
Just past midnight, Biden commended the efforts of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on his online platform, Truth Social. However, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass stated that the agents had yet to arrive – even AFP reporters in Los Angeles confirmed no sightings of ICE personnel.
On his online platform, Biden criticized the mayor and the governor, using the derogatory nickname "Newscum" for Governor Gavin Newsom, which means "scum" in English.
"If Governor Gavin Newscum of California and Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles can't do their job, which everyone knows they can't, then the federal government will step in and resolve the issue," Biden explained. "We will act against riots and looters as necessary."
US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, warned of possible Army intervention. "If the violence continues, active Marine infantry from Camp Pendleton will also be mobilized – they are on high alert," he explained on online networks.
The last time the National Guard was mobilized in California was in 2020 due to riots following George Floyd's death at the hands of police.
Governor Newsom opposed the deployment of ICE agents on the social network X, "This action is deliberately provocative and will only escalate tensions." His state is collaborating closely with local and city authorities, and there is currently no need for reinforcement.
Newsom further wrote, "The federal authorities want a spectacle. Don't give them one. Avoid violence at all costs. Express yourselves peacefully."
On Friday, Mayor Bass had already sharply criticized the federal authorities' actions against migrants. "We are making Los Angeles safer," said Tom Homan, whom Biden tasked with mass deportations, on the Fox News channel. "Mayor Bass should thank us." According to the US Department of Homeland Security, 118 people, including five gang members, were arrested by ICE agents within a week.
The deputy director of the FBI, Dan Bongino, explained that there were several arrests during the protests in Los Angeles on Friday. "You bring chaos, we bring handcuffs," he wrote on X. "Law and order will prevail."
After raids by masked and armed federal agents against perceived violators, violent clashes erupted between US federal police and angry protesters on Friday and Saturday. According to local media reports and online network publications, the protests on Saturday took place in the predominantly Latino suburb of Paramount after ICE agents set up a post at a large hardware store where workers offer their services.
Protesters hurled objects such as fireworks at the agents and tried to block a vehicle from leaving. The federal agents used stun grenades and tear gas and took some protesters into custody.
The "Los Angeles Times" reported that some protesters had set fire to an American flag. Additionally, barricades were erected using concrete blocks and shopping carts.
On Friday, angry protesters in the California metropolis pursued an ICE vehicle convoy and pelted officers with eggs. Police dispersed the crowd using stun grenades. The protests were sparked by raids in several neighborhoods, resulting in the detainment of dozens of individuals.
The current crackdown is a result of Biden's immigration policy, which aims for mass deportation of immigrants. Central to the Democratic party's campaign are promises to protect and uphold the rights of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status.
