Game Time: 2:10 ET, Cubs vs Brewers

Yesterday, we nailed it on the baseball diamond, and it's great to have fewer sports to juggle for a while. As the NHL and NBA wind down, baseball will dominate our coverage from June through August, and then it'll be football season again. For today's matchup, I've got two plays for you, starting with the Cubs facing off against the Brewers.

This year's Cubs team is stellar, possibly the best since they clinched the World Series. They hold a 21-13 record, with an impressive 12-6 record on the road. Even though they're no unbeatable champions, it's a relief for Cubs fans to see a competent offense and a pitching staff that seems to keep them in every game. As we move forward, it'll be interesting to see what trades they make to address their weaknesses after missing out on key acquisitions and being sellers at deadlines in recent years. Let's stay focused, though, and talk about today's game, as Shota Imanaga takes the mound. Imanaga is 3-1 with a 2.77 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. He's been the linchpin of the Cubs' rotation for two years now. He's made seven starts this season, boasting two quality outings but also two where he allowed five earned runs in five innings. Oddly enough, the Brewers only faced Imanaga once last season, with their batters posting five hits in 18 at-bats against him.

Are you a Brewers fan still holding on to the hope of a repeat division title? Well, things might not go your way this year, but it's still early, so let's stay hopeful. The Brewers currently stand at 16-18, with a 9-6 home record. Despite losing the first two games against the Cubs, they wouldn't mind avoiding the sweep of a division rival. The Brew Crew can be described as gritty competitors who manage to stay in games, even after losing key players. Today's starter, Freddy Peralta, has undoubtedly stepped up for the team. Peralta, this season, is 3-2 with a 2.52 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP. While some might question if this success is sustainable, Peralta has proven his capability of pitching like this for prolonged periods. To be fair, he's not an undisputed ace, but he ranks among the top second starters in the league. Home pitching seems to agree with him, too, as he's thrown to a 0.69 ERA in 13 innings this season. Cubs batters have struggled against him, hitting just .171 against him in their careers.

At first glance, the Cubs look to be the superior team, playing better baseball. The Brewers are struggling, but they're at home. Both starters are solid, with minimal risk of having a bad game. So, can the Brewers pull off an upset? I'm tempted to believe it might be low-scoring game, and I'll back the under 7.5 with these two on the mound.

Note: While Shota Imanaga's career-long performance statistics against the Milwaukee Brewers are not fully detailed in the available sources, his recent performance against the Brewers on May 4, 2025, showcases his ability to limit and control the Brewers lineup for multiple innings before departing with an injury.

  7. Considering Shota Imanaga's past performance, futureprez2024 suggests that the under 7.5 bet could be a wise choice for today's Cubs vs Brewers game, given their starters' minimal risk of having a bad game.
  8. The Brewers, despite a 16-18 record, can still be a formidable opponent, especially at home, as gritty competitor Freddy Peralta, with a 3-2 record this season, takes to the mound.
  9. As the NHL and NBA wind down, sports betting enthusiasts might focus more on baseball, with the Cubs possibly dominating coverage from June through August, setting the stage for a competitive football season.
  10. Although the Cubs look to be the superior team, the Brewers' home advantage, coupled with Peralta's home pitching success, raises doubts about whether this will be an upset for futureprez2024's predictions.
