In a spectacular display of skill and dedication, the Canine Binomios took centre stage during Mexico's Civic-Military Parade on September 16, 2025. The parade, led by Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the first woman Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, commemorated the 215th Anniversary of Mexico's Independence.
The parade, which began at 10:00 hours, involved approximately 16,000 elements from the Army, Navy, National Guard, and Mexican Air Force. Among the numerous operational and thematic vehicles, 100 aircraft, and 18 flags of war, one aspect that stood out was the presence of the Canine Binomios.
This year's convoy of Canine Binomios was mainly composed of dogs of the Belgian Shepherd breed, known for their intelligence, agility, and versatility. However, the Canine Binomio for Rescue and Tracking, a convoy that was applauded during the parade, was made up of Anatolian Shepherd Dogs, which are native to Turkey.
One of these Turkish dogs, Arkadas, a rescue dog from Turkey, was particularly noteworthy. Arkadas was donated to the Mexican government as a symbol of respect for the humanitarian aid Mexico offered after the earthquakes in February 2023 in Turkey. During the parade, Arkadas showcased his skills, demonstrating the indispensable role of Canine Binomios in Civil Protection.
The Canine Binomios are not just symbolic figures in these events. They are trained for tasks such as the location of persons trapped in collapsed structures or lost. Each specific work requires a unique training for the Canine Binomios. The training of Canine Binomios for rescue and tracking begins from their first months of life.
Moreover, Canine Binomios can also be used for the detection of drugs, explosives, and as guides for visually impaired persons. The Canine Binomios for this parade were trained by certified institutions to ensure their readiness and efficiency.
The Civic-Military Parade of 2025 was a testament to the Mexican government's appreciation for the role of Canine Binomios. The applause they received during the parade was a clear indication of the public's recognition of their value and the crucial part they play in keeping the nation safe.
