New Luxury Convertible: The Bovensiepen Zagato Debuts in Buchloe, Bavaria
The automotive world has a new addition, and it's making waves. The Bovensiepen Zagato, a stunning collaboration between the German-based Bovensiepen company and the Italian coachbuilder Zagato, has been unveiled.
This sleek convertible, which made its debut at the Fuori Concorso in May, is based on the G83 BMW model. It's a testament to the fusion of Italian design and Bavarian engineering, a combination that promises to deliver both style and performance.
One of the key features that set the Bovensiepen Zagato apart is its lightweight design. Weighing in at 4,133 pounds (1,875 kilograms), it's 110 lbs (50 kg) lighter than the M4 Convertible, thanks to the removal of its bulky roof mechanism. This lightweight construction, combined with an upgraded S58 engine that gains 79 hp, bringing the total to 602 hp, results in a car that can sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds. And if speed is what you're after, the Bovensiepen Zagato can exceed 186 mph (300 km/h).
The Bovensiepen Zagato retains factory panels underneath its carbon fiber body, ensuring a level of quality and safety that matches the BMW-badged model. The rear of the car features the stylish laser taillights borrowed from the BMW donor car, while the headlight shape is new, albeit with the internal components carried over from a standard M4. The car also boasts no B-pillars due to its design.
The Bovensiepen Zagato is a creation of Andreas and Florian Bovensiepen, sons of the late ALPINA founder, Burkard Bovensiepen. The company, like the original ALPINA, has ensured the Bovensiepen Zagato is as safe as the BMW-badged model.
Only a few hundred units of the Bovensiepen Zagato will be made, making it an exclusive and coveted vehicle. The car has two premium counterparts, the Skytop and Speedtop, each believed to cost €500,000. Firm details on production numbers and pricing for the Bovensiepen Zagato are expected in Q4 2025, with deliveries starting in Q2 2026.
Torque in the Bovensiepen Zagato climbs by 50 Newton-meters (37 pound-feet) to 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). The car also features dual layers of bodywork, adding an extra layer of sophistication to its design.
The Bovensiepen Zagato is expected to cost between €400,000 and €500,000, making it three and a half times more expensive than a German-market M4 Convertible. But for those who appreciate the blend of Italian design, Bavarian engineering, and high-performance, the Bovensiepen Zagato may just be worth the investment.
