"I'm astonished": Schalke U19 triumphs in a goal-spree against Borussia Mönchengladbach

Schalke's U19 team began the 2025 DFB Nachwuchsliga (youth league) season on a high note, showcasing their competitive spirit and squad improvements in their opening match against Borussia Mönchengladbach U19 on August 3, 2025.

Under the guidance of coach Norbert Elgert, Schalke has integrated new talents such as Arda Oruç, Amar Ibrišimović, and Bilal Dardari, while some departures indicate ongoing team development. This strategic squad enhancement was evident in their strong start, which has set a high benchmark for the season.

The game against Mönchengladbach offered both learning opportunities for opponents and room for Schalke to continue improving. Schalke's U19 team, led by captain Luca Vozar, demonstrated tireless effort throughout the match, while Mika Wallentowitz and Malik Tubic stood out with their impressive performances. Tubic scored two goals, with one assist provided by Wallentowitz, who played as a wing-back on the right side and set up two goals for Tubic.

Vozar's goal, which came in the fourth quarter, had a significant impact on the game, securing a 5:2 home win for Schalke. However, Tubic missed several good chances during the game, indicating potential areas for further improvement.

Schalke's U19 team made waves in the DFB youth league last season, causing problems for top teams like reigning German champions 1. FC Cologne and Bayern Munich. Despite a quarterfinals exit in a penalty shootout against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, the team has shown potential to dominate the youth league this season.

Coach Norbert Elgert expressed his satisfaction with the win and remains hopeful for a good start in the season opener against Mönchengladbach. Oliver Kirch, coach of Mönchengladbach's U19 team, admitted that his team's performance was not sufficient, but believes that the game presented an excellent opportunity for his team to learn.

With Aboubacar Sylla still awaiting league clearance and Clinton Wilson suspended, Schalke's U19 team will be looking to their new additions and returning players to maintain their competitive edge throughout the DFB Nachwuchsliga season.

Europe's top football leagues may witness the emergence of Schalke's U19 team in the future, given their impressive start in the 2025 DFB Nachwuchsliga. The squad's enhancements, including the addition of players like Arda Oruç, Amar Ibrišimović, and Bilal Dardari, have contributed to their strong performance in sports, showcasing their potential in competitive European-leagues.
