Ben Becker, the celebrated German actor, shares his journey of navigating masculinity and gender roles in his personal and professional life. In a candid interview, he opens up about his upbringing, struggles with fitting into societal norms, and his unique perspective on identity.

Growing up with an unconventional family, Ben recalls the dichotomy between the stricter disciplinary hand of his biological father and the more lenient approach of his foster father, film legend Otto Sander. His recollections paint a picture of a youth characterized by both restraint and liberty, which shaped his unconventional view on many things.

"Nina Hagen would serve communion and David Bowie would come over. Everyone had funny hats on, inflatable animals under their arms and polish on their nails." Ben reminisces about his teenage years, where he would often hang out with gay artists' groups, dressed as leather gays, and engaged in punk rock parties. These experiences helped shape a rather liberal perspective on identity and sexuality, which he carried with him throughout his life.

When asked about his views on gender and the societal discussions surrounding it, Ben proclaims that he has never had any problems with it. He approaches everyone with unconditional respect, regardless of their gender identity, cultural background, or sexual orientation.

Remembering his childhood, Becker shares an anecdote that has stayed with him. During a family vacation, he got lost on Spiekeroog and cried for help. A gentleman mistook him for a girl and took him to the police station. Despite the misunderstanding, the incident left a lasting impact on Becker, shattering the rigid definitions of masculinity and femininity that society often enforces.

Becker is set to appear in a new series, showcasing his acting skills beyond his macho policeman role. Tobias Render, the director of the new series, praises Becker's versatility as an actor and is excited to work with him. Fans are eagerly anticipating the 'picture on Sunday' featuring Becker as a different character, highlighting his ability to transcend stereotypes and embrace diverse roles.
