I'm a running coach insisting on these three essentials during my jogs:

Ready to level up your running gear game without breaking the bank? Here's what you absolutely need!

When I embarked on my running journey after shedding a whopping 100lbs, I kicked it off in clothes I already owned and some old shoes. But as I advanced in obstacle course, trail, and ultra-races, I discovered the importance of investing in suitable gear.

My kit list has grown and changed over the years, and it still is today, tailored to the length and terrain of my runs. But there's a select trio of must-haves that I refuse to hit the tracks without. They're reasonably priced, so give 'em a shot!

1. SPIbelt

I'd tried several running belts—including the FlipBelt, Fitgriff, and Nathan belts—but none quite did the trick. That was until a buddy introduced me to the SPIbelt.

The mostly elastic and spandex construction of the SPIbelt molds to your body, following your natural movements effortlessly—no unnecessary distractions.

This discrete, surprisingly functional elasticated adjustable belt boasts an expandable elastic zipper pocket that might seem small but can fit your phone, keys, and gels like a charm. It's genuinely shocking how much you can cram into one pocket!

If you pack it too full, you might encounter a bit of bounce, but simply tucking it into your waistband solves the issue, as the minimal design allows for that. SPIbelt also offers versions with two pockets for long-distance runs that require more storage for fuel.

2. Goodr Sunglasses

Just like the SPIbelt, Goodr sunglasses were introduced to me by another runner. Initially, I snagged a couple due to the bold, fun designs. Once I got my hands on them, I realized their impressive functionality.

I currently have three pairs of the traditional style, one pair of aviators, and additional pairs with various lens tints. These I wear in all conditions, from blizzards (yes, blizzards!) to bright sunshine.

Sunglasses are an essential part of my running gear because they not only block out the sun, but they also protect your eyes from rain, snow, and wind. Plus, Goodr sunglasses stay put even during intense activities like running downhill or in strong winds. They'll even stay on if you push them onto the top of your head.

3. Baleaf Shorts

Comfort is crucial when running, and the right shorts can make all the difference. Whether you're running for two hours or two miles, having shorts that fit well and don't rub in all the wrong places is essential.

After a lengthy search, I found my holy grail—the Baleaf 5-inch compression shorts with pockets and a seamless crotch. I race, run, and lift weights in these shorts, and I've been wearing them for four years. I've yet to find a pair that matches up, not even from pricier brands.

I also love the 3-inch quick-dry running shorts from Baleaf. In the looser, more traditional style, they are lightweight and move with your body, so I haven't experienced any chafing during my runs. There's a 5-inch version too. Enjoy your runs with comfort and confidence!

In my running experience, a trio of essential gear comes highly recommended for enhanced comfort and functionality during runs. The SPIbelt, boasting a moldable elastic design, serves as an ideal companion for storing phones, keys, and energy gels without distractions. Embracing Goodr Sunglasses offers not only sun protection but also resistance to various weather conditions and secure grip during intense activities. Lastly, for ultimate comfort, the Baleaf brand offers Shorts—either the 5-inch compression style with pockets and seamless crotch, or the 3-inch quick-dry running shorts, both designed to minimize chafing and ensure unhindered movement. These affordable, high-performance items will elevate your running experience, whether you're pursuing weight loss, fitness, yoga, or sports.
