Iloilo City rolls out fuel subsidies for 1,600 jeepney drivers in April 2026
THE Iloilo City Government will roll out a fuel subsidy program benefiting about 1,600 public utility jeepney (PUJ) drivers and operators starting April 9, 2026.
This developed following the qualification of applicants from a total of 1,782 jeepney units listed in the masterlist of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Western Visayas (LTFRB 6).
"Padayon kita nga nagapangita sang paagi agud mapahagan-hagan ang epekto sang pagsaka sang presyo sang petroleum products sa aton transport sector," said the City Government in a statement.
"Ang ini nga inisyatibo kabahin sang aton commitment nga suportahan ang aton mga drivers kag masiguro nga padayon ang ila pagserbisyo sa publiko," it added.
(We continue to look for ways to mitigate the impact of rising petroleum products prices on our transport sector. This initiative is part of our commitment to support our drivers and ensure they continue to serve the public.)
Fuel distribution is scheduled on April 11 and 12, from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., at designated gasoline stations assigned to each route of participating cooperatives.
The program aims to provide immediate relief to drivers affected by the continuing increase in fuel prices.
The City Government reminded drivers that only those officially assigned to a jeepney unit are allowed to claim the subsidy under a strict "one unit, one driver" policy.
It stressed that no authorization will be allowed, and drivers must personally claim the fuel assistance.
For the release of fuel coupons, drivers are required to present their original driver's license.
During the actual fuel distribution, drivers must bring their original driver's license along with one photocopy bearing three original specimen signatures.
Authorities also advised beneficiaries to bring extra containers in case the fuel exceeds the capacity of their PUJ tanks.
The fuel subsidy initiative is part of the City Government's continuing efforts to cushion the impact of rising petroleum prices on the transport sector while ensuring uninterrupted public service for commuters.
The program is expected to support drivers' daily operations and help stabilize transportation services across Iloilo City.
