Iloilo Battle of Champions Kicks Off with a Bang

Let's Talk Basketball, Y'all!

Brace yourselves, basketball fans! The long-awaited "Ilongo Basketball League: Battle of Champions" is about to tip off this very Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the rockin' Pavia Multi-Purpose Gym in Pavia, Iloilo. This jaw-dropping tournament is brought to you by the sick Ilonggo Sports and Events Management Services (ISEMS), run by the legendary Rolando Cunanan. Get ready for a week's worth of non-stop hoops action, as six baller teams, featuring top-notch players from all across the country, go head-to-head!

Who's gonna come out on top? Well, two standout squads you gotta keep an eye on are the RKF Industrial and Installation Corporation (yeah, those guys won the Cebu City Sinulog Cup just recently), led by the unstoppable Reinhard Jumamoy and ex-PBA badass Marvin Hayes, squaring off against Julius Cadavis' Team Khalifa-Tacloban. Another fierce matchup to look forward to is local legends, CM Farm, stacked with some Cebuano ballers, taking on Oking Merchandise in the opening game at 4:00 p.m., followed by the Iloilo-based Qualitech and Double 8 at 6:00 p.m.

Now, don't forget to catch the main event of the day: RKF going toe-to-toe with Team Khalifa. These teams know each other well, having faced off twice in the Cebu City Mayor's Cup back in January. Though Team Khalifa snagged the win during the elimination round, RKF claimed victory in the semis. Which team will reign supreme during this Battle of Champions? You gotta be there to find out!

The tournament will be following a single-round robin format, with the four top-performing teams fighting for a spot in the semifinals, making every game count! Aside from the nail-biting games, the Battle of Champions will also set the stage for a slam dunk contest and a three-point shootout. With games starting from Tuesday at the Passi City Arena, the event is proudly supported by the local governments of Pavia and Passi City.

Tournament commissioner, Cunanan, extends his gratitude to the LGU of Passi, as this event will help boost sports tourism in the region. The grand prize at stake? A mouthwatering P250,000 for the champion, P100,000 for the runner-up, P50,000 for third place, and P30,000 for fourth place. And let's not forget those individual awards, like MVP, Defensive Player, Sportsmanship, and a spot on the Mythical Five.

So, mark your calendars and grab your tickets to catch all the action at the Pavia Multi-Purpose Gym on April 27 and 28, and at the Passi City Arena from April 29 to May 4. This ain't your average basketball tournament, y'all - it's the Battle of Champions, and you don't wanna miss out! #GoTeam! 🏀😎💥
