Illegal Street Racing Uncovered in Iceland: Authorities Confiscate Driver's License and Mobile Phone from 21-year-old Offender

Down the bustling Alexander Street, residents had a wild Friday night (05/30/2025) when a prohibited street race went down, and they didn't hesitate to contact the cops!

About 9:45 PM, onlookers spotted a flashy white Mercedes blasting down the road, skidding around the corner towards Boeler Street. A scant few minutes later, the same whip made a lap, zooming back up Alexander Street in the opposite direction, executing a U-turn near the Ischeland bridge, then roaring back in the original direction.

But the young racer wasn't reckless enough to pull off a stunt in front of everyone. One keen witness observed the 21-year-old driver slowing at the traffic light at Am Sportpark / Stadionstraße, artfully increasing his distance from the cars ahead, before gunning it again.

Luckily for the cops, residents had whipped out their phones to catch the liquorice-slick Mercedes performing its daredevil dance on camera, which they generously shared with the officers. The local constabulary managed to track down and intercept the speedy sedan on Alexander Street.

It wasn't long before a criminal investigationfor prohibited street racing was initiated against the 21-year-old. His driver's license and mobile phone were swiftly confiscated for the investigation. The Traffic Commission then took over further investigations.
