Illegal immigrant allegedly responsible for murdering a mother in Georgia

Updated Version:

Hector Sagastume Rivas, a 21-year-old migrant from Honduras, stands accused of cold-blooded murder in a suburban Atlanta neighborhood. The heartbreaking case has left a family grieving and community reeling, as they grapple with the senseless loss of life and the questions surrounding the suspect's immigration status.

According to reports from WSB-TV, Rivas illegally crossed the US border nearly five years ago. Upon capture by the US Border Patrol, an order for his expulsion was issued more than two years later, in July 2023. Despite this, Rivas remained in the country.

In the early hours of March 12, 2025, Rivas is alleged to have taken the life of Camillia Williams, a mother of five and a grandmother. Investigators claim that he placed Williams in a chokehold before kneeling on her neck with his full body weight, leading to her tragic demise. Williams' lifeless body was discovered hidden under a bush in a wooded area on March 13, and Rivas was apprehended five days later. Currently, he is being detained without bail.

Williams, born in Louisiana, leaves behind a devastated family who are seeking answers. Her brother, Arsene Williams, recounted her fears of being stalked by a strange man in the days leading up to her death. "He waited until he caught her by herself and did what he done," Arsene told WSB.

State and federal officials have commented on the case, vowing to bring the perpetrator to justice. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp issued a statement, noting the heartbreaking loss of Williams and expressing the state's commitment to ensuring justice is served. Kemp added that individuals who commit violent acts and are in the country illegally will face the full force of the law.

ICE has echoed this sentiment, stating that criminal aliens who pose a threat to public safety should not be allowed to remain in the country. They have also lodged an immigration detainer with the Cobb County Jail to ensure Rivas remains in custody for removal proceedings.

The case has sparked heated debates about immigration policies and public safety, with both sides offering passionate arguments. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with pertinent information to come forward. The community and Williams' family continue to search for answers and grieve the tragic loss of this mother, wife, and grandmother.
