Illegal Gambling Operation Implicating Jontay Porter Leads to Another Arrest

A 39-year-old man, identified only as S.H., was detained at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sunday. The arrest comes in connection with an investigation involving former Toronto Raptors center Jontay Porter and allegations of illegal betting.

According to reports, S.H. is a well-known bettor and gambler in Las Vegas. Prosecutors claim that he was involved in a scheme to manipulate games involving Porter. The suspect allegedly used several cell phones and a substantial sum of nearly $10,000 to place wagers on Porter's underperformance through proxies.

The four men previously charged in connection to the betting had their wagers frozen by betting operators. These wagers were flagged as suspicious, preventing the bettors from cashing out.

Porter faced an investigation by the National Basketball Association (NBA) early last year, resulting in his permanent ban due to breaches of its gambling policies. In July, Porter pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud.

S.H. is considered a flight risk due to his criminal background, which includes charges for distribution of drugs and aggravated assault. The suspect had previously purchased a one-way ticket to Colombia but was apprehended by law enforcement when attempting to board the plane.

Prosecutors have substantial evidence that S.H. has conducted or caused to be conducted illicit financial transactions and fraudulent sports wagers totaling millions of dollars. Further details regarding his involvement in these wagers are yet to be released.

It is unclear if S.H. was able to collect winnings on his wagers. Porter's sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 20, 2025. The investigation into the illegal betting scheme is ongoing, and more arrests are expected.
