Illegal Fishing Expedition with J.D. Vance, Unlicensed.
Last week, a diplomatic event took place at Chevening House in Kent, England, where British Foreign Secretary David Lammy hosted US Vice President JD Vance. During the event, the two men were photographed fishing together, but it has since emerged that Lammy did not have a fishing license.
The administrative oversight resulted in the necessary fishing licenses not being obtained for the event at Chevening House. However, Lammy promptly purchased the licenses and self-reported the incident to the Environment Agency, which handles fishing regulations.
The Environment Agency has confirmed that fishing licenses are required for anyone over the age of 13 fishing freshwater species in England and Wales. While the offense could have resulted in a fine up to £2,500 ($3,380), Lammy was not prosecuted as it was treated as an administrative oversight and minor violation, typical for inexperienced anglers caught without licenses.
It remains unclear whether Lammy will face a fine for fishing without a license. The US Vice President's license status was not disclosed due to data protection rules.
Meanwhile, the diplomatic event in the Cotswolds has not been without controversy. Residents of the town of Charlbury held a protest event against JD Vance's presence, called the "Not Welcome Party." Around a hundred people participated in the event, with slogans like "Go home!" and "JD Vance, shame on you!" being displayed.
The incident involving Lammy's failure to hold a valid fishing license during a casual fishing event with Vice President Vance has resulted in a warning rather than fines or prosecution after corrective actions were taken. The necessary fishing licenses for the event at Chevening House have now been obtained, according to the environmental agency.
