A$AP Rocky, the renowned rapper, is making waves in the world of acting with his captivating performance in Spike Lee's latest film, "Highest 2 Lowest." The modern reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low features Rocky as Yung Felony, an aspiring rapper embroiled in a kidnapping plot.

Rocky's on-screen presence has been lauded for its magnetic quality, marking him as a performer with potential for a longer acting career. In "Highest 2 Lowest," he holds his own opposite Denzel Washington, a legendary record label executive in the film. Spike Lee described their dynamic as going "toe-to-toe," a testament to Rocky's acting abilities.

The film, set for release theatrically and on Apple TV+ on Aug. 15 and Sept. 5 respectively, also features Ilfenesh Hadera. Hadera, who was initially doubtful about Rocky's casting, was impressed by his performance at the film's world premiere at Cannes. Elijah Wright, Rocky's younger castmate in the film, finds him inspiring for his multi-talented approach.

Rocky's character, Yung Felony, stages an elaborate kidnapping in the film. At the climax, there is a rap battle between Rocky and Denzel Washington, a scene that showcases Rocky's surprising and powerful acting ability.

This role stands out as a significant milestone in Rocky's acting career, blending his musical talent with a substantial dramatic role in a major motion picture directed by a renowned filmmaker. The rapper, who made his feature film debut as a drug dealer in "Dope," has since appeared predominantly as himself in documentaries and comedies, with occasional acting roles in films such as "Monster" (2018) and "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You" (2025).

When asked about his movie career after the premiere, Rocky expressed confidence, saying "I hope so." He believes he was "born for this" and won't waste time if he doesn't have integrity. Spike Lee shares this belief, stating that Rocky will excel in whatever creative endeavor he pursues.

In addition to promoting his role in "Highest 2 Lowest," Rocky will also promote his role in the Sundance hit "If I Had Legs I'd Kick You" later this year. The rapper, who is also a father, mentions feeding his lady and newborn baby in the rap battle, a personal touch that adds depth to his character.

The release of "Highest 2 Lowest" is an exciting development in Rocky's acting career. With his infectious enthusiasm and unwavering confidence, he is poised to continue making a mark in the world of film.
