Iffezheim sees win in initial round of the ultimate finale

In the opening day of the Spring Meeting at Iffezheim's racetrack, a five-year-old colt named Short Final stunned the racing world by capturing the Baden Mile, a Group 3 event, worth 55,000 euros. Ridden by French jockey Ioritz Mendizabal, the horse outpaced Namaron under Bertrand Flandrin to claim the accolade, with Switsch and Adrie de Vries rounding out the top three.

Surprisingly, the race favorite, Penalty, was edged out of the top spot, finishing fourth with Thore Hammer-Hansen in the irons. Mendizabal, unaffected by the upset, praised Short Final's performance, stating, "He is a very good horse, and today's victory was effortless for us."

Short Final is a gelding, sired by Zelzal and descended from the dam Massaye, who boasts Monsun as her sire. The horse weighed 57 kilograms during the race. Short Final's ownership lies with Mme Sylvie, and his recent racing form has displayed consistent competitive performances.

The Spring Meeting continues on Saturday with the Derby-Trial (3:50 PM) and concludes on Sunday with the Grand Prix (2:30 PM).
