IFAD's Roundtable in Vietnam Aims to Leave No One Behind in Rural Development
The Independent Office of Evaluation of IFAD, led by Paolo Silveri, recently held a roundtable in Vietnam to assess past projects and plan future strategies. The event, attended by provincial leaders, ministry representatives, and local communities, focused on ensuring no one is left behind in Vietnam's rural development.
The roundtable, held on October 15, reviewed IFAD-supported projects from 2012 to 2024. It discussed the Agreement at Completion Point, aiming to integrate evaluation findings into the design of a new joint strategy and investment drive. Dr Indran A. Naidoo, director of the Independent Office of Evaluation at IFAD, praised Vietnam's rural development achievements, highlighting strong ownership, local innovation, and inclusive partnerships.
Provincial leaders stressed the importance of coordination, inclusion, and local ownership for sustaining results from IFAD's projects. Paolo Silveri, lead officer at the Independent Office of Evaluation, IFAD, emphasized the focus on scaling up successful models, including climate resilience, digital transformation, and inclusive value chains. IFAD's investments have helped smallholder farmers boost productivity, diversify incomes, and strengthen their resilience to climate and market shocks in Vietnam.
The roundtable also discussed aligning IFAD's support with Vietnam's national strategies for green growth, digital transformation, and rural modernisation.
The event gathered various stakeholders to discuss IFAD's impact and future strategies. The Vietnamese government reaffirmed its commitment to deepening cooperation with IFAD and maximising the effectiveness of its investments. The roundtable marked a significant step in ensuring Vietnam's rural sector remains prosperous, inclusive, and resilient, with no one left behind.
