The Ecologists believe that Paris should take the lead in this coalition, advocating for sanctions against the Israeli government, the stoppage of arms deliveries, and the suspension of the EU's association agreement with Israel. They argue that the airdrop of food aid is ineffective and dangerous, and that the Gaza Strip, which is entirely dependent on humanitarian aid, needs sustained and substantial support.
However, the French Navy's current stance does not include deploying ships to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza. Instead, France is proceeding with airdrops of humanitarian aid into Gaza and is exploring overland transport to improve aid delivery. The French government has confirmed plans to begin air-dropping food supplies into Gaza, with 40 tonnes set to be delivered from Jordan starting in early August 2025.
Despite this, leaders of the French Greens party have publicly pressed President Macron to deploy French Navy vessels immediately to deliver humanitarian aid and to recognize Palestine. This call reflects their more proactive stance in addressing the crisis in Gaza.
As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, the Ecologists remind President Macron that his inaction will be remembered in history. They argue that a historic decision is needed to end the illegal blockade and stop the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
