Emma Raducanu Aims for Record-Breaking $5 Million at US Open

Emma Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, is gearing up for another run at the tournament next month, with a potential prize of a record-breaking $5 million (£3.7m) on the line.

Raducanu's new coach, Francisco Roig, who previously worked with Rafa Nadal, will be by her side as she aims to defend her title. Roig, who was the No2 coach for Nadal for all 22 of his Grand Slam wins, working alongside his uncle Toni, joined Raducanu's team during Wimbledon, according to the Mail.

The US Open, which boasts the "largest purse in tennis history," has announced a bumper new prize fund for the men's and women's singles champions. However, the exact amount for 2023 has not been specified. The latest available data shows that for the 2025 US Open, the men's and women's singles champions each receive $5 million, a 39% increase from the previous year.

The total player compensation at the US Open has also seen a significant rise, increasing from $75m (£56m) in 2021 to $90m (£67m) in 2022, a 20% increase.

First-round main-draw losers in the US Open will receive $110,000 (£82,000) in cash, while the winning teams from the men's and women's doubles events, as well as the winners of the new Mixed Doubles Championship, will split $1m (£750,000) in prize money.

The increased prize fund is part of the US Open's efforts to combat ongoing player complaints about pay. The 2024 US Open champions, Aryna Sabalenka and Jannik Sinner, each received $3.6m (£2.7m) for their triumphs.

Raducanu, who earned $2.4m (£1.8m) for her title success in 2021, will be hoping to add another $5 million to her earnings if she can repeat her victory next month.
