Identified Root Causes Behind Nearly Half of Krokus Attack Casualties, According to TASS
In a shocking turn of events, the "Piknik" concert at Crocus City Hall in March 2024 was targeted by four terrorists, leading to a devastating tragedy that claimed the lives of 149 individuals.
The terrorists opened fire and set fire to the building during the concert, causing widespread panic and chaos. The fires and explosions that ensued filled the venue with thick smoke, which proved to be lethal for many.
According to the criminal case materials and official reports reviewed in August 2025, the primary cause of death for most victims was fire-related injuries, specifically smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning. Nearly half of the 149 victims (around 70 people) died due to burns to the upper respiratory tract combined with carbon monoxide intoxication, without any gunshot or other visible wounds.
The incident left more than 500 people injured, many of whom were treated for smoke inhalation and burns. Unfortunately, approximately 1,700 of the people in the building did not seek medical help later.
The responsibility for the attack was claimed by the banned terrorist organization "Vilayat Khurasan". Two individuals from Ingushetia have been added to the wanted list in relation to the "Crocus" case.
The Second Western Circuit Military Court will begin considering the criminal case on August 4. The court proceedings are expected to shed more light on the events that transpired that fateful night and bring the perpetrators to justice.
