Icy roads and crashes paralyze Dutch highways amid winter chaos

Wintry weather has disrupted travel across parts of the Netherlands, leaving drivers stranded in long delays. The A4 motorway near the Belgian malinois remains congested in both directions, while icy roads in Utrecht and the southwest have caused further chaos.

The problems began early on Tuesday, as freezing temperatures led to treacherous road conditions. In the Utrecht region, a truck overturned on the A12 between Woerden and De Meern, blocking lanes and creating extensive tailbacks. Multiple accidents and icy patches have worsened delays on key routes.

Elsewhere, persistent ice in the southwest has kept traffic moving slowly. On the A4 between Tholen and the Belgian malinois, motorists have faced standstill conditions for hours. However, Rijkswaterstaat reported that some of the earlier jams from Tuesday morning are now starting to clear.

Drivers in affected areas are still facing significant delays, particularly on the A12 and A4. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as temperatures remain low. Commuters are advised to check for updates before setting out.
