Details emerged regarding the upcoming "Mamma Mia 3" film. - Iconic performer, Cher, announced her involvement in "Mamma Mia 3"; further details about the film remain elusive.
Get ready to twirl those bell bottoms and shake those dance floors as "Mamma Mia!" is set to return with a fiery bang! The sequel, tentatively titled "Mamma Mia! 3", is expected to sizzle the big screen and fans can't help but wonder - will Cher swap her Bob Mackie costumes for another jaw-dropping number?
"She's as hot as the summer sun, baby!"
Got your attention, didn't we? Amanda Seyfried, who plays Sophie in the heartwarming musicals, has dropped a tantalizing hint that the one and only Cher will indeed grace our screens once again! In an interview, she flat-out declared, "Cher is gonna be there, darling, no questions asked!"
However, it seems like the project is yet to leave the drafting table, with Seyfried sharing, "We'll be seeing 'Mamma Mia 3' before 2038, mark my words!" Don't ask for a concrete date, she's saving that for the script-writing competition in due course!
Cher, who played the zany Ruby Sheridan in "Mamma Mia 2", had previously teased fans about her possible comeback to the franchise in November 2022. "We're talking about it. I don't know when they're gonna do it, but I know they're talking about it," she divulged to "Entertainment Weekly."
"If the script is right, I'll be there!"
The architect of the captivating musicadapter, Judy Craymer, publicly spoke about the possibility of a third installment of "Mamma Mia" in May 2023. "It's in the early stages... I know there's a trilogy," she hinted to "Deadline". When it comes to our beloved Donna, Meryl Streep, Craymer believes that she should reprise her role if the script is up to par, as Streep had truly loved playing Donna in the previous films.
Intriguingly, Meryl Streep herself confirmed being approached for the project in May of this year. "I'm still figuring out how my role will pan out, but I can tell you I'm open to it," she divulged to a popular magazine. She's definitely keen on coming back for more ABBA-fueled fun, stating, "People love it, so of course I want to be a part of it."
Christine Baranski, who portrays the fiery Tanya, has also been in discussions with Craymer about her character's storyline in "Mamma Mia 3". However, the plot details are under wraps!
"We'll get to the groove baby, just a little patience!"
Amanda Seyfried sheds light on the holdup, attributing the delay primarily to Universal Pictures' focus on the much-anticipated sequel to "Wicked." Universal wants to release the "Wicked" sequels before circling back to "Mamma Mia" again. "With the first 'Wicked' they had to hold proceedings when 'Mamma Mia! 2' was being produced. I suppose it's a matter of one or the other for musicals,'" Seyfried explained. The second "Wicked" film is due to arrive in theatres in November.
The first "Mamma Mia!" film released in 2008 was a blockbuster hit, raking in an impressive $611.5 million at the global box office on a budget of $52 million. Its sequel, "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again," was equally successful, featuring a star-studded cast including Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Cher, Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters, Dominic Cooper, and Lily James.
