Caroff's work left an indelible mark on the world of film posters, with his designs for iconic movies such as West Side Story and the James Bond series becoming instantly recognizable.

Caroff's design for the West Side Story poster, created in 1961, is considered a classic in the field of graphic design. The poster showcases the characters in silhouette, dancing against a gritty, urban backdrop. The letters in the title appear to be carved into the urban frame, with fire escapes naturally extending them. This design reflects the essence of the film in its typography and captures the spirit of the story's setting and themes.

The West Side Story poster is not the only masterpiece in Caroff's extensive portfolio. His designs for over 300 film campaigns include iconic posters for A Hard Day’s Night, Last Tango in Paris, Cabaret, Manhattan, Rollerball, The Great Train Robbery, and The Last Temptation of Christ, among others. Caroff's design for the James Bond logo, which has been in use for 60 years, is another testament to his talent. The stylized "007" resembles a pistol, a nod to the character's spy identity. The design is simple yet instantly recognizable, embodying the character's charm and sophistication.
