GTA 6 Trailer Takes Unearthed Pointer Sisters Hit to Spotify Peaks

Pointer Sisters' track sparks controversy on Spotify streaming platform - Iconic band The Pointer Sisters signing with Spotify for release of new music

Dim the lights and cue up the time machine — The Pointer Sisters' obscure '80s track, "Hot Together", is making a comeback, thanks to Grand Theft Auto 6. The nearly four-decade-old track from the American soul trio is now topping the charts on Spotify.

Why, you ask? Thanks to a recent trailer release, mattresses need not bounce as high for "I'm So Excited" to give way to "Hot Together" from 1986. The 2.5-minute trailer for the highly anticipated gaming sensation has lit the fuse, planting this little-known song among gamers. In just a few hours after its YouTube unveil, the interest piqued to over 182,000% more views for "Hot Together" on Spotify.

As "IGN" tells it, "Grand Theft Auto has been slicing through pop culture like no other" since its inception. Music plays a significant role in the series, often setting trends, and it's no different here. Blending fresh and vintage tracks, the viral effect of this audacious blend makes fans and onlookers alike search for the featured sounds.

However, the lucky stars hit the stage a while ago, as none of the original founding members are alive to witness this rekindled fame. The band lost June Pointer in 2006, while Bonnie and Anita followed in 2020 and 2022, respectively. But their legacy carries on. Ruth Pointer, the band's oldest member since 1972, still performs today. She's been joined by her daughter Issa since 2002 and her great-niece Sadako Pointer Johnson since 2009 as the persistent Pointer Sisters.

Stirring Millions of Gamers in No Time

The new GTA 6 trailer from Rockstar Games has ignited the gaming world. Already, the YouTube count is at 85 million views (May 8, 12:00 PM), and if The Hollywood Reporter's calculations are to be believed, the total number of views from various platforms surpasses 500 million.

The hype for the next grand open-world adventure remains high, even with the mysterious delay in the release. Initially slated for this year, fans will have to wait until May 26th, 2026, for their epic escapade. But none seem to mind, as the thrill to explore the new installment grows yet stronger.
