Ice Rink on Chelyabinsk's Main Square to Open Next Week

Chelyabinsk’s main ice rink is set to open on December 29, marking the city’s 290th anniversary. Construction on Revolution Square has progressed smoothly despite an unusually warm start to winter. Organisers have prepared a mix of ice sculptures, slides, and festive decorations for visitors to enjoy.

After a mild November and early December, workers delivered the first ice blocks to Revolution Square on December 15. The preparations remained on schedule, ensuring the rink would be ready for its planned opening.

The rink will showcase elaborate ice sculptures of historical figures like Lenin and Yuri Gagarin. Local heroes from the Tschkalow plant, as well as modern personalities such as President Putin and famous athletes, will also be depicted. Alongside these, visitors can explore ice slides, illuminated installations, and a decorated Christmas tree with garlands. This year’s theme celebrates Chelyabinsk’s 290th anniversary. The city has turned the rink into a central attraction, blending tradition with contemporary elements for residents and tourists alike.

The ice rink will welcome guests from December 29, offering a mix of cultural tributes and winter entertainment. With sculptures, slides, and festive lighting, the venue aims to draw crowds throughout the holiday season. The project reflects both the city’s history and its commitment to seasonal celebrations.
