Ice Hockey's High Roller, Dane Fox, Kicks off Season Hiatus After THC Positive Test

Dresden Ice Lions' star forward Dane Fox is set to miss the season opener in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) due to a doping violation. The 31-year-old Canadian wunderkind will sit out for a whopping three months.
The Dresden Ice Lions, fresh off their promotion to the DEL, will initially have to make do without their shining light, Dane Fox. The NADA (National Anti-Doping Agency) handed down the suspension following a THC test result shortly before Christmas.
Straight Facts, No Chaser
ATHC, the potent compound derived from the cannabis plant, appeared in Fox's sample during routine testing. Consequently, he was initially sidelined by his club with a suspension that's now been upheld by the NADA. While THC doesn't provide any performance-enhancing advantages, the rules are the rules, and they've been broken. As Matthias Roos, Dresden's sports director, openly admits, "Dane's not exactly over the moon about this, and he's made it clear in the proceedings that this wasn't intentional."

Dane Fox played a pivotal role in the Ice Lions' promotion last season. With 51 total points in the regular season (14 goals, 37 assists) and an additional 17 points in 18 playoff games (8 goals, 9 assists), the Canadian had struck gold in Dresden. The new DEL season kicks off on September 9, with Fox's return slated for mid-September.
