1:4 in Salzburg: Eisbaeren verpassen Achtelfinale der CHL - Ice Bears Berlin Eliminated From CHL After Heavy 1:4 Defeat to Salzburg
Ice Bears Berlin suffered a heavy 1:4 defeat to EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions Hockey League (CHL), resulting in their elimination from the competition. The loss was partly due to the absence of four key players, weakening Berlin's defense.
The game started poorly for Berlin, with Connor Corcoran scoring for Salzburg in the 4th minute with a power play goal. Mario Huber and Peter Schneider then added goals in the 31st and 32nd minutes, respectively, putting Berlin three goals down. Lean Bergmann managed to pull one back for Berlin just 28 seconds after Salzburg's second goal. However, despite some promising chances in the final period, Berlin couldn't make the game exciting and ultimately lost 1:4.
Coached by Manny Viveiros, Salzburg took full advantage of Berlin's weakened defense. Nash Nienhuis scored their second goal in the 22nd minute. Berlin ended the group stage with five defeats in six games, finishing in 22nd place in the final standings.
The absence of four regular players significantly impacted Berlin's performance, contributing to their elimination from the CHL. Despite a brief glimmer of hope with Lean Bergmann's goal, Berlin couldn't overcome the early deficit. The team will now focus on their domestic league, aiming to improve their fortunes there.
