A New Chapter for Alex Berardinelli: Star Forward Joins Eisbären Regensburg
Ice bears are migrating towards Regensburg.
Hailing from the bustling state of Pennsylvania, Alex Berardinelli made a name for himself on the ice after honing his skills at the illustrious Colorado College. His journey took him through the ECHL and SPHL before making the leap across the Atlantic in 2022. Now, he's ready to embrace a fresh challenge in Germany.
Berardinelli left an indelible mark in France's top league, Ligue Magnus, with Mulhouse. His 22 points in the regular season and five points in the playoffs showcased his incredible offensive prowess. However, it was Finland where he truly shined, lighting up the Mestis, the second-tier league, for IPK Iisalmi. Berardinelli nearly doubled the league average, amassing 53 points (28 goals, 25 assists) in just 48 games, leading his team to an unprecedented championship win in 2023/24.
His success in Finland earned him a chance to play in the top Finnish league, the Liiga, the following season. Despite scoring just 20 points in 50 games for Jukurit Mikkeli, his time in Finland firmly established him as a force to be reckoned with in European ice hockey.
Berardinelli is now eager to embark on this new chapter in Regensburg: "I'm extremely thankful and excited about this opportunity to join the team this season. I've heard fantastic things about the team and the city, and I can't wait to get started."
Eisbären Regensburg head coach Peter Flache is just as enthused about Berardinelli's arrival. he sees the American as a competitive, quick-footed forward with an unyielding spirit: "Alex has consistently fought his way through and proved himself, which is exactly the type of player we want. He's not just fast, but he also possesses that unique edge that can't be taught. For me, his 'compete' is crucial – that fiery determination to play every shift with maximum intensity, to fight for every inch, and never give an inch."
Coach Flache continues, emphasizing Berardinelli's mindset aligns perfectly with their ambitions: "We need that mentality to realize our goals – to work hard, stand together as a team, and make our region proud. Alex's mindset matches our objectives perfectly."
With Berardinelli secured for the upcoming DEL2 season, Eisbären Regensburg fill their final import spot on their roster. The newcomer is set to join the squad during preseason preparations in August.
