ICC welcomes Sanjog Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer, previously from JioStar.
On July 7, 2025, Sanjog Gupta was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Cricket Council (ICC). With an extensive career spanning over two decades in media, sports, and entertainment, Gupta brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his new role.
Gupta began his career as a journalist before joining Star India (now JioStar) in 2010. Over the years, he held multiple leadership positions in content, programming, and strategy. In 2020, he became the Head of Sports at Disney & Star India, and following the merger of Viacom18 and Disney Star, he was appointed CEO of JioStar Sports in November 2024, where he focused on Sports and Live Experiences.
The ICC's Nominations Committee unanimously recommended Gupta for the CEO position, citing his extensive experience in sports strategy and commercialization, as well as his deep understanding of the global sports and media landscape. ICC Chairman Jay Shah emphasized these assets as key to growing the game globally and pursuing ambitions such as making cricket a regular sport in the Olympics.
The global recruitment process to fill the CEO position attracted over 2,500 applications from candidates across 25 countries. The Nominations Committee for the ICC CEO position consisted of Imran Khwaja, Richard Thompson, Shammi Silva, and Devajit Saikia.
Gupta's passion for technology and cricket fans' perspectives will be essential in the ICC's ambition to grow the game. He stated that it is a privilege to lead cricket at a time of unprecedented growth and with the support of nearly 2 billion fans worldwide.
Marquee events, commercial avenues, and the women's game are growing in popularity in cricket. The inclusion of cricket in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and the rapid acceleration of technology deployment could act as force-multipliers for the Cricket movement around the world.
As Gupta takes on his new role, he is poised to lead the ICC in its mission to move beyond traditional boundaries and establish cricket as a regular sport in the Olympics, growing its expanse across the world and deepening its roots in its core markets.
