Nana, the Greek songbird, has been a fan favorite for a whopping 62 years, with hits like "Weiße Rosen aus Athen," "Guten Morgen, Sonnenschein," and "Ich schau den weißen Wolken nach" shining brightest in Germany.
At ARD's "Advent Festival of 100,000 Lights" hosted by Florian Silbereisen in Suhl, Nana dazzled audiences with a duet alongside pop star Roland Kaiser, who had the brilliant idea for the collaboration.
The two artists recorded their rendition of "Schiffe, die sich nachts begegnen" last summer at the iconic Hansa Studios in Berlin, a place closely tied to Nana's past, as she had recorded "Weiße Rosen aus Athen" there more than six decades ago.
"Florian is like a dear friend to me, even though he's much younger. His talent amazes me," Nana shared. "I've often attended his shows and truly admire his hard work."
Nana, however, had to say a painful goodbye to another friend in 2021 – beloved TV legend Alfred Biolek. She fondly recalled their duet performance of "Andrea Doria" with Udo Lindenberg in 1980 and credited him for teaching her to smile during her performances, as she once struggled with shyness.
Another cherished friend, event organizer legend Fritz Rau, lived on in her thoughts until his passing in 2013. "He took me to many places across Germany to entertain my fans," Nana said.
As for how Nana feels about her upcoming 90th birthday, she takes it all in stride, only looking in the mirror when she applies her make-up. She remains active through swimming and walks, and her love of music keeps her youthful spirit alive.
