Kiel's Hendrik Pekeler (32) and Patrick Wiencek (34) dealt a crushing 30:26 defeat to Berlin's reigning league leaders in the German Handball Bundesliga. But as the European Championships approached, these formidable talents wouldn't be gracing the European stage—by their own choice.
