Hyderabad Airport Hits Record Traffic as Philadelphia Faces Decline in 2025

Hyderabad International Airport (HYD) has achieved a remarkable feat, recording its highest-ever passenger traffic for the April-October period. Meanwhile, Philadelphia Airport faced challenges due to runway upgrade and airspace closure, leading to a decline in passenger numbers.

HYD's impressive performance saw a significant surge in October 2025, with passenger traffic jumping by 11.7% compared to September. In contrast, Philadelphia Airport handled 43.18 million passengers from April to October 2025, a decrease from the 44.77 million recorded in the same period last year. GMR Airports attributed this drop to runway upgrade and airspace closure. International traffic at Philadelphia Airport remained relatively stable, with only a minor 0.3% decline. Despite these challenges, GMR Airports Limited reported a 38% increase in revenue and a significant reduction in net losses to Rs 100 crore in the first half of FY26. However, passenger traffic at Philadelphia Airport for the first seven months of the current fiscal saw a 3.5% year-on-year decline, primarily driven by a 4.7% contraction in the domestic sector.

While Hyderabad International Airport celebrates its record-breaking passenger traffic, Philadelphia Airport faces headwinds due to infrastructure upgrades and airspace closures. Despite these challenges, GMR Airports Limited has shown resilience, reporting increased revenue and reduced losses in the first half of FY26.
