Hurricane Melissa Heads for Eastern Canada: Heavy Rain, Strong Winds Expected

Eastern Canada is bracing for a significant weather event this weekend. Hurricane Melissa, after causing destruction in the Caribbean, is set to track close to or over eastern Newfoundland. The Maritimes and Quebec can expect heavy rain and strong winds.

The storm is expected to bring 30 to 50 mm of rain to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and P.E.I. on Friday, with higher amounts possible in some areas. Strong southeasterly gusts could reach 70 to 80 km/h across the Maritimes and up to 110 km/h in western Cape Breton.

As Melissa moves north, it will draw in tropical moisture, enhancing rainfall across the northeastern United States and eastern Quebec. Residents of these regions can expect wet, blustery weather this weekend, with gusty winds reaching as far west as southern Ontario.

Hurricane Melissa, after causing at least 25 deaths and widespread power outages in the Caribbean, is now threatening eastern Canada. Residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the storm approaches. Rainfall amounts could increase due to Melissa's influence, leading to potential flooding and wind damage.
