"HURIWA Criticizes Soludo and Mbah for Grand Receptions of Tinubu Despite Nnamdi Kanu's Detention; Accused of Political Insensitivity"

In a no-holds-barred statement issued in the heart of Abuja, HURIWA -- the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria -- has called out Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, and Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, for their alleged political insensitivity and disconnection from the people's struggles.

As per our sources, HURIWA's National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, didn't mince words, labeling the governors' graceful receptions for President Bola Tinubu as insensitive and morally questionable, especially given their silence on the ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The association accused Governors Soludo and Mbah of blindly supporting a status quo that curtails the rights of their own people, failing to stand up for Kanu despite the widespread public clamor for his release. They branded the governors as sheepish followers rather than courageous leaders willing to address pressing human rights concerns.

HURIWA also didn't shy away from criticizing Governor Mbah for hosting a grandiose project commissioning ceremony in Enugu, complete with President Tinubu as the guest of honor, while the people strain under the weight of local security and development challenges.

Adding fuel to the fire, HURIWA accused Governor Soludo of adopting a tone-deaf stance on the alleged exclusion of the Southeast from key national projects and appointments. The association firmly denounced Soludo's comment dismissing Kanu's release as a potential solution to the insecurity plaguing the region, branding it a reckless statement that objectifies the region's struggles.

According to the statement, HURIWA believes that the Southeast governors have woefully failed their people, favoring photo opportunities and political favors over genuine leadership and the pursuit of the region's best interests. In contrast, regional leaders in other parts of the country have been seen actively negotiating for their people's welfare and rights, raising the question of whether Soludo and Mbah truly represent the voices of their people.

Their bold stance highlights HURIWA's call for Southeast leaders to act with courage, demand equity, and challenge the status quo on issues such as federal appointments, infrastructure development, and human rights protections. The future of the Southeast depends not on empty gestures but on bold, assertive action.
