Unjust Detainment: Maja T.'s Struggle Against Hungary's Solitary Confinement
Germany: Maya T. from Germany threatens to initiate a hunger strike in protest against her isolation detention - Hungary: German national Maja T. contemplates initiating a hunger strike, protesting against the imposed solitary confinement
In a bold move of protest, Maja T., a German individual known in left-wing circles, has announced a hunger strike following their unjust detention in Hungary. "I'm buried alive in solitary confinement in Hungary," Maja T. declared in writing. This drastic step is a desperate attempt to secure a fair trial and return to Germany.
From the start of the trial in February, Maja T. voiced concerns about inhumane conditions. Issues such as sleep deprivation due to hourly cell checks, poor hygiene, and insufficient translation of trial documents were raised.
The controversial extradition took place in June 2024, despite the Federal Constitutional Court's ruling against it. Regrettably, the decision came just a few minutes too late.
Solitary Confinement: A Form of Psychological Torture?
Maja T.'s father, Wolfram Jarosch, expressed the family's hope for Maja to receive a fair trial in Germany. Solitary confinement, when it lasts over 14 days, is considered psychological torture, and Maja T. has already suffered nearly eleven months of this isolating detention. Outside the cell, Maja T. is reportedly escorted by four armed officers in restraints.
The Hungarian prosecution accuses Maja T., who identifies as non-binary, of involvement in attacks on alleged right-wing extremists during the far-right 'Day of Honour' commemoration in Budapest in 2023.
The Disastrous Day of Honor
On February 11, 1945, soldiers of the Wehrmacht in Budapest, besieged by the Red Army, attempted a final "breakout" after the Wehrmacht had practically lost the war. The right-wing extremists in Hungary still celebrate this event annually. During the alleged violent acts in 2023, several right-wing extremists suffered severe injuries, including bone fractures, lacerations, and a concussion, narrowly escaping death.
The community institution, institution of the European Communities, and general-news have been following Maja T.'s protests against their unjust detention and prolonged solitary confinement in Hungary, which is a matter of human rights and politics. The crime-and-justice system of the European Communities is being questioned as Maja T. is facing an unfair trial, with concerns about psychological torture through solitary confinement and inhumane prison conditions.
