HA NOI— National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Hungarian President Sulyok Tamas on Wednesday, marking a significant visit as both countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
Man warmly welcomed Tamas, his spouse, and the high-ranking Hungarian delegation, expressing that the visit reaffirms the commitment of leaders from both nations to strengthen bilateral ties. He expressed optimism that the visit will be the beginning of a new chapter in the Vietnam-Hungary relationship.
Man acknowledged Hungary's support during Vietnam's struggle for national independence and reunification and appreciated the country's assistance in training Vietnamese officials. He emphasized the National Assembly's dedication to collaborating with the government and relevant agencies to implement agreements reached during this visit, aiming to bring practical benefits to the people of both countries.
Tamas thanked the Vietnamese leaders for their warm welcome and expressed admiration for Vietnam's impressive development in socio-economic areas and foreign affairs. He emphasized that Vietnam is Hungary's top priority partner in Southeast Asia.
Both leaders shared satisfaction with the positive development in their bilateral relationship, particularly in the political and diplomatic spheres, including the parliamentary channel. Man pointed out that while trade between the two countries has been growing, it is not at its full potential. He suggested using existing cooperation mechanisms more effectively and leveraging the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement to increase trade and investment in the future.
Tamas, in response, affirmed Hungary's support for the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement by other EU member countries and expressed Hungary's intention to continue supporting the removal of the IUU "yellow card" against Vietnam's seafood exports by the European Commission.
Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in various key sectors such as semiconductors, nuclear energy, smart agriculture, pharmaceuticals, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, defense industry, water management, environment, and climate change response. They also agreed to support each other in participating in global supply chains and addressing shared challenges.
Man proposed facilitating exchanges between young parliamentarians, organizing regular bilateral parliamentary forums, and collaborating in building legal frameworks to support digital transformation and environmental protection. He also thanked Hungarian authorities for supporting the Vietnamese community in Hungary.
Tamas acknowledged the friendship between the two countries, the Vietnamese students in Hungary, and the Vietnamese community in Hungary as important resources for fostering closer ties. He promised to continue supporting the Vietnamese community in promoting its role as a bridge for developing the cooperative relationship between the two countries.
