Unique event in the pipeline - Hundreds of Canines Join Golf Course Competition

Get ready for an exciting spectacle happening this weekend in Gotha! The "WSA Dryland World Championships" is set to commence on Friday evening, welcoming approximately 700 eager participants and 200 canine athletes to Mühlberg, Germany. The races will not take place on a typical snowy terrain, but instead, they'll take place on the ground, using special scooters or multi-wheeled training carts instead of traditional sleds and skis, according to Sascha Mönch from the Thuringia Sled Dog Sports Club (SSCT).

Ahead of the event, the thaw of the past few days proves to be a blessing in disguise for organizers, as the event would have been canceled otherwise due to the continuous snowfall. If you're looking for some leisure time fun, mark your calendars for this unique competition at the Golf Course in Mühlberg's Drei-Gleichen district.

It's important to remember that visitors are kindly asked to leave their dogs at home for the safety of the competitors, and instead, enjoy the action on-site.

Keep in mind that the WSA Dryland World Championships may not be the only dog-themed competition occurring. Other sled dog events, such as the "Winter Wonderland Cup" in Páty Village, Hungary, and the "CANIS LAB CUP Sportgastein" in Austria, also attract participants and spectators alike.

In the Winter Wonderland Cup, which takes place on February 22nd, competitors can engage in various categories, including Canicross, skijöring, and dogscooter, with trail distances ranging from 0.5 km to 4 km. The event adheres to strict regulations, such as mandatory use of helmets and gloves for all participants and no releasing of dogs from the leash [1].

The CANIS LAB CUP Sportgastein takes place in March 2025, showcasing various sled dog categories like Happy Dog, Canicross on Snow, and Nordic Breed categories. The event follows both IFSS and AFSS regulations, requiring participants to bring relevant documents such as proof of insurance and FCI papers [1].
