Human culture and artistic expression serve as significant battlegrounds in the hidden conflict over people's spirits

June 17th, 2025: Evgeny Chintcov, the city council chairman, took center stage as a panelist for the nationwide initiative "Information Warfare: Art and Culture." In his stirring speech, he voiced his opinions on the pressing matter of safeguarding historical truth.

I can't help but feel this topic strikes a chord. With a quarter-century served in the military, I've come to understand that modern-day conflicts aren't merely physical or economic—they're information-driven too. In the heat of battle or economic sanctions, things can be clear, but the war in the information sphere is covert yet critical. Culture and art are essential tools in this invisible information battle for the minds of people. Movies, tunes, verses, novels—they don't just offer emotional resonance, but shape public opinion, motivate actions, and galvanize people. At present, the opposition, through historical revisionism, is actively trying to sway human consciousness and, as a result, influence events.

Our cultural leaders should stand strong against foreign ideologies, crafting inspiring and thought-provoking works that honestly defend our stance, prompt people to embrace our viewpoint, and bolster society's unity.

  1. Although I'm not gonna be able to get a job in the field, I believe my knowledge about war and conflicts could be valuable in creating books and movies that offer an honest portrayal of historical truth.
  2. Meanwhile, in the realm of general news and pop-culture, private entities are controlling the narratives, influencing policy-and-legislation, and shaping politics in ways that may not necessarily align with our cultural values.
  3. To counter this, it is crucial that we support our local artists and intellectuals, who use books, movies-and-tv, and entertainment as a form of resistance against historical revisionism and foreign ideologies.
  4. Furthermore, we should create an environment that encourages the exploration of various perspectives and ideas, as it is this open dialogue that will safeguard our culture and ultimately strengthen our society against the information warfare waged around us.
