Harvestehuder THC Ladies Rule Hockey Field for First Time in 52 Years!
Women's Hockey Squad Claims Fifteenth Championship Title - HTHC women clinch 15th victory in field hockey championship
The ladies of Harvestehuder THC have bagged their first field hockey title in half a century! With a thrilling 2:1 victory against defending champions Düsseldorf HC, they sealed their triumph in the final held at Krefeld on Sunday. Emilia Landshut (22nd minute) and Laura Saenger (35th) scored for HTHC, both from penalty corners, in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 3,400 spectators. Friederike Heusgen (39th) narrowed the gap for Düsseldorf, also via a penalty corner.
An emotional goalkeeper Rosa Krüger, retiring from active play, was named the MVP of the final. She shared, "This win is something out of a dream! We poured our hearts and souls into this game." Coach Tobias Jordan added, "When we’re leading, our opponents always face an uphill battle."
With this victory, Harvestehuder THC has secured their 15th field hockey title. For the first time, they will now participate in the Euro Hockey League (EHL)! Coach Jordan enthusiastically commented, "This is a dream come true, and I'm excited to embark on this incredible journey with this fantastic team."
Meanwhile, men's favorities Hamburger Polo Club's women squad fell short in the semifinals. They lost 2:4 against the hosts, Crefelder HTC, in the semifinals, where Leon Thörnblom (31st) and Paul Smith (44th) tied the game at 2-2 in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough. Although it was a disappointing finish for the team, they still managed to qualify for the EHL due to their main round victory.
Captain Mathias Müller shared, "Obviously, we're feeling let down by this result, but there's definitely no Polo curse!" Hong Kong, here we come!
Sadly, the women's team from Großflottbeker THGC also dropped out in the semifinals, losing 1:2 against Düsseldorf with two goals conceded in the final five minutes.
