The Volksparkstadion is no longer a one-team show—the HSV women's football team is moving up to the big leagues next season, joining their male counterparts at the top tier of German football. After a grueling 13-year absence from the Frauen-Bundesliga, the Hanseatic women are back to fight for glory.

After a pulsating 3:0 victory over Freiburg II, the elated HSV women's team congregated on training pitch 6, belting out "Never again second league!" in unity with their die-hard fans. Their triumphant celebration came just hours after the men's team secured their own Bundesliga promotion, sending shockwaves through the world of German football.

A New Era Dawns for HSV Women

"Third league? No way! No way! No way!" echoed through the Volksparkstadion, drowning out the cries of rival fans of Werder Bremen and FC St. Pauli, neither of whom are popular among HSV faithful. A little over 15 hours separate the dual celebrations of the men's and women's teams as they rose to the pinnacle of the German football scene.

Officially, 630 spectators witnessed the decisive goals from Christin Meyer (53rd minute), Lotta Wrede (74th), and Svea Stoldt (81st), but scores of more fans cheered from the stadium steps and barriers. The stunning victory secured third place and Bundesliga promotion, effectively relegating Freiburg to the Regionalliga.

Saying Goodbye, Looking Forward

"Amazing. History made," said goal-scorer Meyer in the aftermath. The momentous comeback for the HSV women marks the end of their 13-year multi-division exile following financial withdraw from the Bundesliga at the close of the 2011/12 season. Club president, Marcell Jansen, hailed the success as a triumphant "correction" of the team's past misfortunes.

Marwin Bolz, the current HSV women's coach, was soaked in beer as he analyzed the game post-match. "Bravo to the girls—they crushed it," said Bolz, who will part ways with the team following the final match of the season against SV Meppen next Sunday. Taking Bolz's place will be Liése Brancão, a 43-year-old Brazilian coach who has recently worked with SKN St. Pölten in Austria.

But one thing remains certain—HSV Women will no longer be on the sidelines, but in the thick of it. Club decision-makers, including youth director Horst Hrubesch and professional football director Claus Costa, have unequivocally decided to welcome the women's team into the main arena of the Volksparkstadion.

A Rousing Season for HSV Women

This success caps off an extraordinary season for HSV Women, with the team reaching the cup semifinal only to lose a nail-biting game against Werder Bremen before an astounding 57,000 spectators. This North Derby showdown set a record for attendance at a women's club football match in Germany.
