Born in Düsseldorf in 1948 as the son of actor Hans Müller-Westernhagen, the young musician kickstarted his career as a singer in the 1960s, leading his own rock'n'roll band. It wasn't until 1975 that he released his debut album, "Das erste Mal" (The First Time), which, alas, failed to bring him great acclaim. However, the following year, Westernhagen transitioned into acting, finally garnering attention.
His most renowned and award-winning film, "Theo gegen den Rest der Welt" (1980), saw him play a captivating truck driver embarking on an exhilarating chase. Despite his growing fame in the acting world, it was Westernhagen's music career that would captivate the masses.
By the 1980s, the singer's popularity soared uncontrollably. He released five successful albums and went on numerous tours between 1982 and 1986. As the curtain fell on his acting career at the end of the decade, Westernhagen reinvented himself, switching to the stage name "Westerhagen" and releasing his most successful album, "Hallelujah."
