Welcome to the captivating story of Thomas Gottschalk's transformation into an Erzgebirge smoker!
Seiffen, nestled in the Erzgebirge, is the birthplace of this unique tribute to Germany's iconic entertainer. Master woodcarver Tino Günther (61) from Seiffen, with a heart full of respect for Gottschalk's talent, decided to handcraft an Erzgebirge smoker, exclusively for the star's last "Wetten dass..." show.

Günther's motivation was simple: "Creating someone a 'Raachermannl' [Erzgebirge's term for a handmade wooden figure] is the highest recognition we artisans can bestow." The process from conception to the physical creation took a remarkable four weeks---an absolute record for the master woodcarver. The first finished piece was gifted to Gottchalk himself before the show, a true honor for the artist.
Handcrafted with love, the figure consists of 27 components, meticulously crafted from hornbeam and maple, and is strictly limited. The dynamic woodcraft industry in the Erzgebirge region sees a diverse workforce of approximately 20 individuals from Günther's company at the forefront, with additional support from four other local suppliers involved in manufacturing the Smoking Tommy.

The creation process is an artful, painstaking endeavor, with each figure taking around eleven hours to assemble from blanks to the final painted piece. The crucial aspect was capturing the distinctive Gottschalk nose, a challenge meticulously overcome by the master craftsman after numerous attempts.
The figure shall hit the shelves on December 1 at a price of 99 euros, both in brick-and-mortar stores and for mail orders.

The Erzgebirge region's skilled craftsmen, undeterred by competition, continue to craft exceptional, one-of-a-kind Smoking Tommy figurines, a testament to their passion for the region's rich cultural heritage.
