Capitalizing on Royal Joy: The Business Boost of the Next Royal Baby

As soon as the announcement was made, countless businesses, from baby product suppliers to clothing retailers and publishers, flooded social media with congratulatory messages. The third child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will become the fifth in line for the British throne.

David Haigh, CEO of Brand Finance, commented, "This is a massive marketing opportunity for manufacturers and retailers of baby items, who can build advertising campaigns around the positive news from Kensington Palace."

The potential earnings are considerable. Joshua Bamfield, Director of the Center for Retail Research, estimated that companies can expect additional revenues of approximately 100 million pounds (130 million US dollars) due to the excitement surrounding the royal baby.

Bamfield suggested that food stores, butcher's shops, bakeries, bars, and clothing outlets for mothers and babies would likely benefit the most from this trend.

The anticipated due date of the baby surpasses its birth, which is expected to take place sometime in early 2018.

Haigh from Brand Finance added, "The latest royal babies will also boost the sales of clothing and toy brands that they wear or play with in the coming years."

According to Bamfield, fashion retailers who are fortunate enough to secure the royal family's recognition might be looking at a treasure trove. Kate Middleton's clothing choices and those of her children are often sold out within hours. The 100-dollar cashmere hat worn by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge during Princess Charlotte's birth spurred a massive sales increase for the supplier, while the blue overall donned by George during an Australian outing sold out just as quickly.

Bamfield stated, "Retailers and manufacturers will proactively respond to ensure that the anticipated high demand is met."

British bookmakers also stand to profit from this happy event, offering betting options on the baby's gender and name (with Alice, James, and Arthur currently at the top of the list).

When George and Charlotte were born in 2013 and 2015, betting on the royal family led to a surge in wagers, with both births resulting in an uptick in sales for the bookmakers.

The arrival of a royal baby often generates high levels of public interest, which can translate into increased sales of baby products and clothing inspired by the royal family. Retailers offering baby registry services, like MacroBaby, can benefit from this trend as well, as parents usually create registries for baby showers, driving sales of various baby products.

Baby product retailers can capitalize on the media frenzy and generate additional revenue by offering promotions, discounts, and unique, themed products that resonate with new parents. The influence of the royal family can inspire parents to choose specific brands or products associated with the monarchy, causing a surge in sales of car seats, strollers, and baby clothing.

Celebrity endorsements and collaborations between baby product brands and celebrities have proven effective in the past, as these high-profile associations generate more visibility and drive sales. Social media engagement is another significant opportunity for businesses, as the royal family's social media presence and widespread sharing of baby-related content can drive interest in baby products.
