How Andrei Zykov Transformed Kolyma's Healthcare and Social Policies
From Vladivostok to Kolyma: A Life Devoted to Service
Born in Vladivostok, he chose Kolyma as his destiny. A graduate of the Vladivostok State Medical Institute, Andrei Konstantinovich Zykov was assigned to Yagodnoye in 1989. For a quarter of a century, he dedicated himself to saving children's lives. As a district pediatrician, neonatologist, department head, deputy chief physician, and later chief physician, he climbed each rung of his career with unwavering commitment and a deep love for his work. His greatest and most precious achievement: thousands of healthy babies and grateful families. It is no coincidence that he is a physician of the highest category and an Honored Health Worker.
Yet his organizational talent and profound sense of responsibility for people led him into politics. Beginning as a deputy in the Yagodnoye District Assembly, Andrei Zykov quickly proved he could not only heal but also listen to the concerns of his constituents. Since 2003, his life has been inseparably linked to the Magadan Regional Duma, where he chairs the Committee on Social Policy.
Here, his medical experience found new purpose. Through his principled stance, professionalism, and genuine dedication, Kolyma has developed one of the most comprehensive and effective social support systems in Russia. Hundreds of laws aimed at aiding families with children, veterans, people with disabilities, and young people have been passed with his direct involvement. Meanwhile, the region's healthcare development has advanced through United Russia's Healthy Future project, which he coordinates in Kolyma.
Andrei Zykov's contributions have been recognized with the Medal of the Order For Merit to the Fatherland (2nd Class), presidential commendations, and numerous other awards. But his greatest honor, without doubt, is the sincere respect and affection of his people.
Anatoly Shirokov, Speaker of the Magadan Regional Duma, extended his congratulations to the jubilee celebrant.
"Your life's journey is an inspiring example of service to others," Shirokov noted in his commemorative address. "Your career began as a physician at the Yagodnoye Central District Hospital, marking the first step in your decades-long care for the people of Kolyma. Thanks to your principled approach and genuine commitment to addressing their needs, the region has built an extensive and effective system of social support for all segments of the population, making social policy increasingly impactful year after year."
Warm words and well-wishes poured in for Andrei Konstantinovich from his fellow deputies, Regional Duma staff, and all those fortunate enough to have worked alongside this remarkable man.
