How a Thermal Spa Hotel Forced Three Workaholics to Slow Down
Three workaholics—including writer Mrudul Pathak Kundu and colleague Misha Bains—recently turned a wellness retreat into a makeshift office. Their base was Fontsanta Hotel Thermal Spa & Wellness, a quiet escape in southern Mallorca. The experiment began with an unexpected twist: the hotel’s thermal springs changed their usual routine.
Upon arrival, the hotel staff suggested the trio start with the thermal springs before diving into work. The warm mineral water had an immediate effect, slowing their pulse and easing their usual urgency. Tasks that once felt pressing now seemed less critical.
The staff also advised that their bodies would signal when it was time to leave the springs. This simple guidance turned out to be true, as the trio naturally stepped away once they felt fully relaxed. The hotel itself, built from local limestone and lime plaster, blended seamlessly into the landscape beyond the Es Salobrar salt flats. Its understated design added to the sense of calm.
The experience shifted their focus away from constant productivity. The thermal waters and serene setting disrupted their work-driven habits, at least for a while. By the end, the trio found themselves questioning whether their usual pace was truly necessary.
